Hello again everyone! Today was a day packed with exciting and new stuff. We kicked off the day by getting a bus and walking tour of Madrid. We walked all around the city and were given brief histories about the buildings we were seeing. We stopped in two different plazas, one which used to be the place everyone would go when there was a town announcement to be made and one where supposedly all roads began.

We culminated our tour at the Prado Museum. The museum was a uniquely beautiful experience because we had not been to a museum like that before on this trip. It was an indoor museum which only held classical art. I particularly enjoyed this because I love seeing this type of art, where everything is extremely realistic and detailed. I could see the amount of time and thought went into each art piece and the intention behind everything was evident. My two favorite art pieces were a massive realistic painting of a woman of Spanish nobility in the mid 1800’s and a sculpture of a goddess holding two goblets and wrapped in a veil. I loved the first one because of how much it stood out to me. The lady was wearing a vibrant red dress and she had dark ebony hair to contrast. And her expression was so human I felt like I was looking at a picture. The sculpture was so intricate and impressive because of not only how realistic it looked but also the way the artist was able to capture sheer fabric through marble. I also really liked the use of mixed media because she was holding goblets of gold which stood out against the white marble of her clothes and body.
Later on in the evening we went to a flamenco lesson and performance. The lesson was both very fun and very tiring. We learned about what body parts are most essential to flamenco dancing. We were always flicking our hands and twisting our arms no matter what the rest of our bodies were doing.
When we went to see the performance later, we saw this concept throughout the whole thing. The performance was wildly beautiful and emotional. All the performers were fully committed and it made the show so much more intriguing. Each dancer was very unique but equally as passionate.
Thank you!!
