Passionate art in Madrid!
Hello again everyone! Today was a day packed with exciting and new stuff. We kicked off the day by getting a bus and walking tour of Madrid. We walked all around the city and were given brief histories about the buildings we were seeing. We stopped in two different plazas, one which used to be the place everyone would go when there was a town announcement to be made and one where supposedly all roads began. We culminated our tour at the Prado Museum. The museum was a uniquely

Tilt at the Windmills
Hola! Me llamo Sancho Panza y soy el Squire de Don Quixote. I will ask AI to write the rest in English to accommodate the personas in San Francisco and neighboring areas. Today I had the distinct pleasure to travel with the Opera Scouts, even though the journey was much swifter than my usual journey on my faithful donkey, Rucio. We left the beautiful seaside town of Granada and traveled many kilometers Northwest, en route to Toledo, the former capital of España, known as the

Valencia!
Hello, everyone! Today was a very busy day. We started off with a tour of the City of Arts and Sciences; Valencia! Our combination bus & walking adventure took us all the way from the modern area, the arts and science district designed by Calatrava, to the historical district, containing sights dating back up to two thousand years. We looked at structures such as a futuristic science museum made of white ceramic and glass, that also served as a filming location for the Star W

The Alhambra!
Welcome back to our blog about Spain! We just made it to Valencia just a few hours ago. Today we went on a trip to a fortress and learned about it's history, for example castle guards would sit right behind the doors. They had a lot of tactics to help defend the castle. And they had a lot of violent techniques to fight off intruders including boiling sand and right angle corners that forced right handed warriors to leave themselves wide open to slaughter when trying to fight

A Structure Like No Other... and Lots of Bus Time!
Today started off blissfully slow, as we didn't have to leave the hotel until ten o'clock. Our leisurely start led into a beautiful countryside drive as we travelled to C ó rdoba. Upon arrival, we saw a medieval tower constructed to protect the city, before crossing a Roman bridge and entering through the gate, also constructed by the Romans. (This was a thrill for me, as I'm a Roman Empire fanatic) C ó rdoba was bustling with preparations for Holy Week processions! We quickl

Palace, Passion, Performance...
Hello everyone! Today was our first full day in Spain and it was full of fun activities. We started the day bright and early with a small walking tour of Sevilla which culminated in us arriving at the palace Alcazar. The palace was absolutely beautiful. It was built by Muslims during the 12th century when Muslims ruled Spain. The palace was later rebuilt for the new Christian king of Spain. However, he loved the gothic style of the Muslims and loved their culture that he most

Opera Scouts in Seville!
Welcome to Opera Scouts Spain Blog! Our trip began with an early morning at the San Francisco Airport. The scouts met up at 8:30, excited to begin our trip to Spain! From there, we spent a total of 15 hours in the air, with layovers in New York and Paris. At each layover, groups headed out to explore for food. While chaotic and tiring, it made a great bonding experience for us all. We landed in Seville at around 3:30 local time. At this point, everyone was exhausted. Still we

Aix---Avignon---Mérindol: Joy in the South of France!
Caroline here, it's really late and we've had a crazy long day of over-the-top experiences. This morning we hopped on the bus early and set off to Avignon. We stopped at the Pont du Gard and saw the amazing ancient aquaduct. We sang there and a very appreciative crowd gathered, wanting to hear more...but we had places to go! The bus dropped us at the city gates to the walled city of Avignon where we walked and explored before setting off for a brief lunch/shopping adventure
